Events - ICC Women's Twenty20

We were very lucky that the Group Stage matches of this international sports competition took place at the Somerset County Ground here in Taunton. St George’s School took part in the “Adopt a Nation” scheme and were delighted to be paired with Australia. Some of the players visited our school and took part in an assembly as well as playing an informal game of cricket in the playground. Key Stage 2 students went to the Somerset County Ground to support the Australian team in their first round matches and formed a guard of honour for them.

Peter Hanratty was quoted on the Somerset County Cricket Club website:

“I can’t speak highly enough of the Australian Team who came into school with their manager. They had so much time for the children and nothing was too much trouble. This whole event will switch a number of children onto cricket and to live sport but I was pleased that it was a women’s international because a very strong message has come across to the girls as a result of what has happened during the ICC Twenty20.”
