MR BRAUND UPDATE 04/05/2020

News

4th May 2020

Dear Children, Parents and Carers,

I hope you and your families and friends are all keeping safe and well and that you had a lovely weekend.

I am very lucky to have a job that I very much love and enjoy. There are many aspects of the job that I particularly enjoy, the most being meeting so many people from day to day. Children, staff, parents, grandparents, members of the parish, colleagues from other schools and many more. I am very much missing seeing the whole school community and do look forward to the time that we will all be safely back at school together. We still await news about future plans for schools. Although there is much speculation, nothing has been confirmed. I still predict that there will be strict social distancing guidelines and these will be considered very carefully so that everybody stays safe and well.

I really enjoyed the Friday assembly and want to thank Mrs Marchant and all the staff for making it happen. I am sure the children will have noticed that I forgot the ‘Golden Cushion’ again!

This Friday marks 75 years since Victory in Europe (VE) Day. It marks the end of World War II in Europe on 8th May 1945, when the Nazi forces officially surrendered to the Allies. The day was a public holiday, where people sang and danced outside their homes, and held street parties. I am aware of different ‘Stay at home’ celebrations that have been advertised. They look like fun and something you might think about taking part in yourselves.

I have been lucky enough to have visited Arromanches Beach and  Pegasus Bridge several times during my time as Deputy Head at Parkfield. I always found it extremely moving to be on the beach with sixty children and staff and think about the brave heroes and heroines all those years ago who fought to protect our countries and the millions of people.

The Google Classrooms will be closed from 4pm on Thursday for the weekend. I know that the VE Days celebrations will be different than what were planned but I am sure that there will be millions of people around the world paying their respects to the people who gave everything to protect so many.

You will see that I have some VE Day activities below. I hope you all enjoying doing them.

Love and best wishes,

Mr Braund
