Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you all for attending the Christmas Fayre. It was absolutley wonderful! What a brilliant atmosphere with everybody having a great time. The Fundraising Team raised over £1100! Money raised will help pay for our brand new library and music room.

The Nativity

Many congratulations to the children and staff for putting on such a wonderful Key Stage One Nativity! I was absolutely delighted with how much the children enjoyed themselves, were so enthusiastic, performed with confidence and were so happy on stage. Thank you for your support and attending. These magical memories will live with us forever.

Security at St George’s

It is really sad and disappointing to report that we have had two laptops taken from the school premises within the last six months. The staff and I are really shocked and upset that this could happen at our wonderful school. Keeping our school safe and secure is of paramount importance and as a result of this, we have had to review access to the school premises. Going forward, the following changes will be made and we ask for your understanding and support as we implement them:

  • A member of staff will be responsible for checking and locking all doors leading to classrooms and the hall from 3.45 onwards.
  • Parents coming to the school to collect children from After School Club will need to go the external door of the Busy Room and Mrs Mitchell and Staff will help.
  • Access to the school for any other enquiries will need to be through the Main Office.
  • Children arriving late to school will need to go through the Main Office, as will any parents dropping off items such as sports kits and lunchboxes etc. after the start of the school day.
  • At the end of the school day, staff will wait with children on the playground until there are no longer any cars queueing in the one way system. Any children who remain uncollected at this point will be escorted to the After School Club. Parents of these children should make their way upon arrival to the external door of the Busy Room to see Mrs Mitchell.
  • Children attending after school clubs will have access to the toilets beside Class 5 and Class 6. The doors to the classrooms will be locked.
  • Children will be encouraged to promptly make their way to their after school clubs and should bring all of their belongings with them to avoid needing to come back into the school building to retrieve things after the club has ended.
  • Any children who need to go to the After School Club from their extracurricular activity will be escorted there by the club organiser.
  • Initially, restricted access around the school may feel like an imposition as staff and parents adjust to the new measures being put in place. However, we take the security of the school premises very seriously and know that you will support us in making the grounds as secure as possible for all. We are grateful for your understanding and we wish to still remain as accessible and approachable as possible while ensuring a secure environment. We value good communication and strong relationships between parents and teaching staff. Please always feel welcome to book an appointment to speak to your child’s teacher if you have any concerns or queries.

Breakfast Club

We are going to trial opening the Breakfast Club at a slightly earlier time of 7:45am from January. We recognise that some parents and carers are wanting to drop off slightly earlier. There will be an additional charge of £1 for those wanting to drop off at 7:45am to cover staff costs. There will still be the other two options of 8am and 8:30am. If we find that the trial is successful it will continue.

School Christmas Dinner Day

Just a reminder that we have our School Christmas Dinner on Thursday 19th December. In addition, we would like the children to wear a Christmas Jumper on this day. We will be asking for donations of £1 and money raised will be donated to CAFOD.

Carol Service at St George’s Church

The KS2 Carol Service will be at the church this year on Wednesday 18th December at 9:15am. Although it is a KS2 Carol Service, KS1 will be attending to enjoy the beautiful singing. Everyone is welcome to attend.

End of Term Mass

The end of term Mass will be at School on Friday 20th December at 9:30am. All parents, carers and members of the parish are welcome to attend.

Inset Day

Just a reminder that we have an Inset Day on Monday 6th January 2020 and school will re-open on Tuesday 7th January 2020.

This may well be the last newsletter of the autumn term. Wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year ahead.

With Best Wishes
