Dear Parents and Carers,

A Note from the Governors

St George’s Governing Body are very pleased to inform you, that after a successful interview process, Mrs Edwina McDonnell has been appointed Headteacher of St George’s Catholic School. Mrs McDonnell went through a rigorous set of interview activities and undertook an afternoon of formal interview questions. The diocesan representative and the governors on the selection panel were very impressed by her performance and are looking forward to the next chapter in the life of St George’s Catholic School under Mrs McDonnell’s leadership. We wish her every success in her new role.

This Week in School

It has been a very busy week in school, both for the staff and pupils, and for me personally! I am very excited that I have been appointed as Headteacher of this fantastic school. When I stepped up to the role after the Easter break, I felt so welcomed and supported by the whole school community – parents, pupils and staff alike. I have enjoyed every moment of my time as Acting Head, and I cannot wait to carry on as Headteacher in September. The happiness and well-being of the pupils and staff are at the top of my priority list, along with ensuring the mission statement is celebrated every day, as we help the children to grow in mind, body and spirit. St George’s is a very special place, and I will work hard with staff, governors and parents to ensure that what is distinctive about our school is celebrated, cherished and developed even further.

We have also had a Section 48 Diocesan inspection this week. As a staff, we work so hard to bring the Catholicity of the school alive for the children. There are always next steps for any school to drive improvement, but today, I am celebrating the hard work, enthusiasm and generosity of spirit of the St George’s Team. I can personally vouch for the fact that they go above and beyond every day to ensure the pupils in their care are given the most fantastic experience at this school.

The children are lucky to have such an experienced, committed and caring team helping them to learn and grow. I know that the staff feel lucky too, as the St George’s children themselves are inspiring in how they show love and care for each other, approach their learning with a positive mindset and their exemplary behaviour. I hope we can all take a moment this weekend to celebrate our wonderful school.
