10th September 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to see everyone on Tuesday! It is super to be back and I look forward to a brilliant year ahead. We have all wished for a return to some normality for a long time and we are gradually doing this but with caution. We continually appreciate your support especially with the challenging circumstances we have found ourselves in these past months.

It has been brilliant having the children in the hall for assembly! We are all absolutely thrilled to be together as a school again.

Drop Off

Thank you all for your support and co-operation with a return to drop off in the morning. Just to remind you, we open the swimming pool playground at 8:40. Children from Year One to Year Six can attend Wake and Shake in the Sports Hall with the Breakfast Club Staff. If they do not wish to attend this, they must stay with their parent/carer until 8:50.

Can I please ask that parents and carers drop off as quickly as possible as we have other parents and carers trying to drop off.

Parents can wait on the swimming pool playground and at 8:50 their children can go to their classes. Parents of Year One and Reception children can wait in the gated off area/play area directly outside these classrooms until 8:50.

Mr Davies and I are really busy at this time to ensure that all children are safely in school and we have really appreciated your support!

Pick Up

Pick up went very well on the first day back. We initially planned to return children to cars parked in the drive through area to the parents and carers but we do not have the capacity to do this. What we ask is that all parents pick up as quickly as possible to ensure that everyone leaves the premises safely and as quickly as possible. There are days that I cannot be outside, can I please ask that you continue to follow our system at all times.

Clubs

Thank you for the enthusiastic response we received regarding the range of clubs we are offering. Please can parents and carers speak to the school office regarding swimming, breakfast and after school clubs. Please contact Mr C and Miss Parker about their clubs.

Monsignor Bernard

I wrote in a newsletter at the end of the school year that Monsignor Bernard was moving to a new Parish in Bristol. Monsignor moved on Tuesday and we all wish him the very best for the future. He has given so much support to the school and community and he will be greatly missed. We will be inviting Monsignor Bernard back to St George’s Catholic School in the next few weeks to thank him for all he has done for us.

Father Tom Dubois will be starting at St George’s Catholic Church at the end of September.

Calendar of Dates

We usually like to publish a whole year of key dates for all families. We will be having a return to some of our key events but plan to do these slightly differently in the weeks ahead.

Parents Evening

We will be having Parents Evening earlier than normal this year as we recognise that it has been many months since we had parents meeting with class teachers in person.

This is planned for:

Monday 27th September – 3:30pm – 6:00pm

Tuesday 28th September - 4:30pm – 7:00pm

A letter will be sent out soon with information on booking an appointment with the class teacher.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

It is the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year. The additional Bank Holiday falls during a school holiday. As a result of this Schools are being given the Bank Holiday additional day on Friday 22nd October. Therefore, we will break up for October half term on Wednesday 20th October, as the teaching staff will be in school on Thursday 21st for an INSET Day. A copy of the revised calendar is attached.

School Uniform

I constantly receive comments about the smart appearance of the children at St George’s. The children clearly wear their uniform with pride. Thank you for your support with this. Just a reminder that we have returned to full school uniform including school shoes from September 2021. Sensible flat dark shoes and sandals (not open toed) are the policy of the school. Please note, winter boots are not part of the School Uniform Policy. The School Uniform Policy is on our website.

Children will be allowed to wear their PE kit on PE days.  We would like the children to have the correct PE uniform and to wear their St George’s jumpers as well. In the winter we will allow jogging bottoms but these must be dark.

New Flooring

The school had another busy summer of improvements to the premises with new flooring laid in Reception Class, Year 1, 2, 5 and 6. This follows on from the new flooring in classes 3 and 4  two years ago.

We are also having the canopies outside classrooms repaired and improved during October half-term.
