Dear Parents and Carers,

I cannot tell you how thrilled we are to have St George’s Catholic School with 215 wonderful children attending and enjoying their educational experience. The children have been excellent and are clearly happy to be back. A huge thank you to Mrs Crocker for arranging the balloons that greeted everyone on Monday.

Are you aware that we are going paperless?

Communication between home and school is vital. We are lucky that we have various ways of communicating to parents. We do this through our website, Google Classroom and have previously sent out paper copies of newsletters. We will no longer be sending out hard copies unless they are requested. We will be sending out a weekly newsletter via email.

Please can I ask that you check your emails and the school website regularly for information about the school.

Have you completed the Parental Survey 2021?

Thank you to all the parents that have kindly taken time to complete the school survey. I would really appreciate it if the survey could be completed by all families by Monday 15th March.

Were you inspired by World Book Day?

WOW!!! What a World Book Day we had at St George’s! A huge thank you to Mrs Earp, the whole team, the children and families for making it a wonderful celebration of reading and books! I found the day truly inspiring and gave me ideas for books to read with my children.

Are you aware of our exciting broad and balanced curriculum at St George’s?

St George’s has always recognised the importance of having a broad and balanced curriculum as well as providing as many opportunities we possibly can. Lockdown and COVID restrictions has made this a challenge but to still continue with many of our events such as Harvest, Masses, PE for all year groups, Christmas Nativity, World Book Day and much more. We have been faced with Government guidelines that have understandably made such events a challenge but these have been overcome. An example of our broad and balanced curriculum is the Science WOW event this week kindly organised by Mrs Rolf. Ask your child about what they learned.

Do you know our plans for Red Nose Day?

It is Red Nose Day on Friday 19th March. We would like the children to wear something red for the day and ask for a donation towards Comic Relief.

Are you aware of our amazing Fundraising Team at St George’s?

We are so fortunate to have such an active Fundraising Team at St George’s. Their hard work and ideas raise much needed funds for the school. They came to me on the first day back with ideas for a summer raffle!

The Fundraising Team are always looking for additional members to their team. Covid has sadly prevented us from holding our regular events such as Christmas and Summer Fayres, Discos etc but I know that when we are able to, the team will be asking for help from others. Please do let the School Office know if you are keen to support the work of the Fundraising Team and we can put you in touch.

Do you bring your children to St George’s by car?

Thank you all for your co-operation and support with our unique drop off and pick up routine at St George’s. A huge thank you to Mr Davies. He is outside in all weathers with one aim to ensure everyone is safe. The staff have been excellent with supporting with returning the children to parents.

Monsignor Bernard has commented on how impressed he has been with the one way system.

Our local residents at Nunsfield Court have asked that we make it possible for them to pass waiting cars so that they can return to their homes. The one way system enables this to happen. Can I please ask that parents do not turn around or park in Nunsfield Court.

Our one way system also allows emergency service vehicles to get through as well as Monsignor Bernard and Father David.

One issue that was politely highlighted by residents of Nunsfield Court is the very top of the road. They have asked cars can avoid blocking the pathway so that they can get pass.

Congratulations to an ex pupil

The Parker School of Dance and Gymnastics are happy to announce that their senior squad member, Lucia Velarde Jakubec, has been chosen by Rhythmic Team GB to go onto a special hopefuls masterclass. She was picked by a past commonwealth champion during a masterclass with PSDG.  Well done Lucia, we are all so proud of you.

Best wishes,

Mark Braund
