17th September 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Two weeks into the new term and there is a wonderful atmosphere around St George’s. The children are settled and enjoying their school day. It is brilliant to return to normal school day hours!

Are you reading our newsletters?

I am the first to admit that I am not great at reading the letters from the schools that my children attend. Just to remind all parents and carers, we email a newsletter to all families every Friday and we aim to update you with as much information as we possibly can. Every newsletter will have one letter or two letters highlighted to make up an anagram and at the end of every term parents will be asked to hand in the anagram puzzle to the office and a lucky entry will be picked out of a hat to receive one free club session and a treat for the children in the family.

Have you signed up for our various clubs?

Wow! We are absolutely delighted with the take up for our various clubs we are offering at St George’s. We were so excited to start the clubs and are so pleased with the response we have had. Just a reminder that Mr C’s Clubs and Emily’s gymnastics are independent clubs and communication will come from Mr C and Emily.

We are introducing a new email for our after school swimming clubs so please send any queries to: swimming@stgeorgestaunton.school

Please contact the school office for Breakfast and After School Clubs.

Did you receive the email about booking for Parents Evening?

On Wednesday an email was sent informing all parents and carers that bookings for Parents’ Evening opens at 7am on Monday morning. New parents to the school have been given usernames and passwords. Parents who attended last year should still have their username and password. If you have any problems please contact the school office.

Parents Evening will be on Monday 27th September from 3:30-6:00 and on Tuesday 28th September from 4:30-7:00. KS1 will be in the school hall and KS2 will be in the sports hall. Parents and carers will be welcome to visit the classroom before or after their appointment to look at their child’s books. We do ask that parents do not arrive too early for appointments as we are wanting to reduce numbers being in the halls at any one time.

Can I please ask that parents and carers are mindful of parking when arriving for parents evening as there are times that others are blocked in. It would help if you left a sign with your name on your dashboard.

Start of Term Mass

Our Start of Term Mass will be on Thursday 23rd September at 9:30am at St George’s Church. Year 1 to Year 6 children will attend. Parents and carers are welcome to attend. We ask that parents and carers sit on the side pews.

Harvest

Due to continued caution with Covid 19 – our traditional Harvest Festival will be slightly different. We will be having separate events and they will be at the church as we feel it is bigger and more spacious. We will aim to update you on the date once we have confirmed this with Father David.

Midday Supervisors

We currently have vacancies for two midday supervisors. The position entails supervising children during their lunch break between 12.20 – 1.30. Please contact the school office for further details.

Parking at St George’s

Many thanks for your part in ensuring the start and end of the school day are running so smoothly. Can I please ask that you continue to respect each other when parking in the playground?

Have you got a child starting Primary and Secondary School in September 2022?

The admissions process for school place applications in September 2022 will soon begin and the website will be live for parent’s/carers to make their on-line Secondary applications from Monday 13 September and Primary applications from Monday 27 September.

For children due to start school for the first time or transfer to a junior or middle school the closing date for applications is 15th January 2022 and the national offer day is 19 April 2022.

For children due to transfer to a secondary or upper school the closing date for applications is 31 October 2021 and the national offer day is 1 March 2022.

The primary and secondary admission guides for the 2021 admissions process can be found on our website www.somerset.gov.uk/admissions from early September. Parent/carers are advised to read the guide thoroughly before making an online application.

In previous years the Admissions and Entitlements Team have written to every parent/carer of children due to start or transfer school explaining how to apply, key dates and where to find further information. Due to budgetary constraints we will no longer be writing individually to parents. Information can be found on our website www.somerset.gov.uk/admissions and we make use of Facebook, twitter, local press etc. as usual to raise awareness. If your school uses a Facebook page, we would be grateful if you could follow ‘Somerset School Admissions’ https://www.facebook.com/Somersetschooladmissions/  and share posts, where appropriate in order to increase awareness.
