Beat the Streets
St George’s love a sporting competition! Whenever we set the children a challenge, they smash it! This time though we got our parents involved as well, and suddenly the children had to keep up with their parents.
St George’s registered 266 players throughout the game, and we topped the Average Points leader board with a massive 833 Points. A whopping 250 points more than the 2nd place team.
In the Total points leader board, we came 2nd place overall despite competing against Schools with almost double the number of players that we have.
A 1st place for Average points and a 2nd place for Total points is an amazing achievement! Throughout the competition we always had about 10 players in the top 50 leader board, some individual excellence really helped us achieve our top spots.
Mrs Farthing was a shining light throughout the competition, often accompanied with Mrs Potter. Keeping Mrs Farthing on her toes was Maja and Amelia from class 3 who along with their parents really bought into the active travel element of the game. The Linden sisters from class 1 and class 5 helped get St George’s off to a good start in the early weeks of the game. A special mention must go to Zuzanna Banana from class 2! Zuzanna was often in the top 5 of the leader board throughout the game only exceeded by her dad! Who actually ended up winning the individual competition in Taunton! Older cousin Amelia (class 5) inspired by her little cousin was soon adding some big points herself and along with her dad kept St George’s firmly at the top of the leader board. Monika O and Matty O also worked hard throughout the game adding thousands of points. Mr Thompson was another name that didn’t drop out of the top 50 leader board often up in the top 20! Finally a massive effort was also put in by the Rowe girls along with Mum and Andy who were always out Beating the street. These are just some of the individuals who we felt deserved a special mention for their outstanding effort. Thank you to everyone who joined in and helped our School do so well it was a real team effort!
Monsignor Bernard
Monsignor Bernard announced at Mass at the weekend that he will be leaving the St George’s Parish in early September. We are all very appreciative and grateful for the incredible support and kindness he has shown the school community these past years. He has been a regular visitor to the school and we have all be delighted to see him. I am sure you will all join me in wishing Monsignor Bernard much happiness and success for the future.
Mrs Mitchell
As I mentioned in June, Mrs Mitchell leaves St George’s this summer after many happy years at the school. Mary has been touched by the many comments and gifts from the community. We look forward to Mary visiting in the future.
Mrs Erolan
A huge congratulations to Mrs Erolan who was informed last week that she has been accepted on to a teacher training course. We are delighted for Mrs Erolan and would like to wish her every success with her training and ultimate goal of becoming a teacher. Mrs Erolan will finish at St George’s this Friday.
Year Six Production
Wow! What a show! I couldn’t be more proud of the Year Six children and Staff. The children gave everything! Beaming smiles, great acting, fantastic singing and a joy to watch! The performance was recorded last week at Richard Huish College and was uploaded onto Google Classroom for the rest of the classes to enjoy!
Clubs for 2021/22
We are delighted with our comprehensive offer for after school clubs from September. Mr C’s clubs will start the first week back. The Breakfast and After School Clubs will be open on the first day back at school. After school swimming sessions will begin the second week back and year group sessions will not clash with any of Mr C’s clubs.

Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club will return to the Busy Room from 7:45am. A breakfast will also be provided for early arrivals.
Wake and Shake
Wake and Shake will return to the Sports Hall from 8:40am. Children can be dropped off at this time for 10 minutes of fitness. This is for children from Year One to Year Six. Parents and carers must stay with their children if they are not taking part in Wake and Shake.
The start of the School Day
The school day will start with our doors opening for all children at 8:50am. All children need to be in school for this time.
Break Times
Break times will be at 11:00am for all classes and the classes will no longer be in Class Bubbles. KS2 children have playtime on the back playground and KS1 have playtime on the side playground.
Lunch Time
Lunch time will return to 12:20 for all until 1:30.
End of the School Day
The end of the school day will return to 3:30 for all. We are looking at how we can ensure a quicker departure for all cars from the premises.
After School Clubs and Mr C’s Clubs
After school club will return to the Busy Room from 3:30pm-5:30pm. A snack will be provided from 4:30. The plan is for the first hour to have a theme such as art and craft, forest school etc and for the second hour to focus on quieter activities such as homework and reading.
School Uniform
All children will be expected to wear the St George’s uniform and return to wearing school shoes. Children will continue to wear St George’s PE kit on their PE days.
Assemblies
Assemblies will return to the hall on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. A short Tuesday worship/reflection will take place in classes.
Parental Access to the School
Parents will need to go to the School Office for any enquiries at the start of the school day. The school premises will continue to be kept locked for safeguarding and security reasons. Class Teachers are on the playground at the end of the school day. Parents will need to book an appointment with the class teacher (if it something that needs a little longer to discuss.) They can also email the class teacher. Please can all parents be mindful that class teachers will not be able to reply over a weekend or in the evenings.
The School Car Park
In the mornings, parents can park up (reverse) on our car park playground. They can drop their child/children at our morning wake and shake at 8:40am.
When parking in the morning, cars must not be left unoccupied in the central drive through on the car park playground as it causes unnecessary hold ups for others.
At the end of the school day, once the car park spaces are filled, we allow parents to park in the central drive through but these parents/carers must stand by their cars and the children will be brought to you. Previously, we have found if a parent/carers leaves a car unattended it inevitably holds up the entire school community.
