7th May 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Do you walk or cycle to school?

Have you remembered that the side gate (by the School Office) and the back gate (by the Pre-School) can be used by pedestrians. The back gate automatically opens at 8:50am and 3:25pm. Please speak to Mr Davies or Mrs Gordge if you require the side gate to be unlocked.

Are you travelling to school by car?

Thank you all for your support and understanding regarding the traffic. Somerset County Council have set up systems that when followed is keeping the traffic flowing as smoothly as possible. Can I politely remind all parents and carers that there is no turning right into The Mount and there is no turning right at the bottom of The Mount (near Vivary Park.) We have received reports from the road works team that one or two are ignoring the signs and this is causing unnecessary delays for others.

When is the final school INSET of the academic year?

Just a reminder that we have a School INSET day on Monday 7th June. The children will return to school after the May half-term on Tuesday 8th June.

Where would we be without our Fund Raising Team?

The Fundraising Team have great plans for a Summer Raffle to raise much needed funds for the school. More information will be communicated soon! The aim is for the traditional Summer Fayre to return in 2022.

Will we be having a Sports Day this year?

It is our aim to have our Sports Day towards the end of the Summer Term. We are awaiting to hear further news about the lifting of COVID restrictions and will then be able to finalise our plans. I am sure parents and carers will now be in training for the parent and carer race J

Are you aware of the St. George’s Mission Statement?

At St George’s Catholic School we help all our children to grow in MIND, BODY and SPIRIT. This is the ‘child-friendly’ version of our school’s mission statement.

Under our Mission Statement, the school aims:

*     To provide a broad and balanced curriculum based in a Catholic, Christian setting where we are led by the Spirit of Christ.  We believe that, "Children and young people should be helped to develop harmoniously their physical, moral and intellectual qualities."

VATICAN II

*     To make prayer, worship and liturgy real spiritual and educational experiences and to contribute successfully to the development of the faith of each individual in the school community.

*     To provide an environment in which children can grow in understanding and in the acquisition of skills, knowledge, attitudes and values for life.

*     To participate in and encourage interaction between the home, parish and school.  We believe that it is important that common aims be established and developed in a climate of mutual trust and openness.  Home, parish and school must together provide preparation for the pupil's entry into the wider community.

*     To develop within each child a respect for them self and their achievements and a respect and understanding of others.

We feel so privileged to be a part of your child’s learning journey and we are grateful for the opportunity to support them growing in mind, body and spirit during their time at our school!

Do you know who the month of May is dedicated to?

The month of May is a month dedicated to Our Lady, Jesus's Mother Mary.
Have you ever considered praying the Rosary? It is a group of prayers reflecting on the important events in the lives of Jesus and Mary.

We have included some resources on Mr Braund’s Classroom on the Google Classroom to get you started. We hope you enjoy saying this prayer at home with your families!

Best wishes,

Mark Braund
