September 2020 Update

Due to Covid-19 restrictions we cannot allow children into the small physical library space to choose books but we obviously want to be able to lend children books to read for pleasure.
Therefore we now subscribe to an online library management system for which every child has an account. Once logged in you may reserve a book which Mrs Price will deliver to the classroom.
All returned books are quarantined for 72 hours before being returned to the system for loaning again.
Full details for the use of the Libresoft system are available through the Library Club Classroom in our G Suite - if you have any problems accessing this please speak to your class teacher or the school office.

Summer Holiday "Virtual" Book Club

A virtual book club has been created on the Library Club Google Classroom to encourage children to read for pleasure during the summer holiday. Permission has been granted by the publisher Chicken House for a video recording of Beetle Boy written by MG Leonard to be hosted on the Classroom. This is accompanied by vocabulary and challenge activities. There are many other resources, curated by the librarian, designed to encourage all children to continue enjoying stories throughout the long holiday.

Happy Reading everyone!
While school is closed due to the Covid 19 crisis our Librarian has created a classroom on our G-suite domain called Library Club where there is an ongoing chat about book recommendations and many links to online resources for you to use at home.

If your child was absent from school when the classroom code was distributed, please email the school office and a code will be sent to you.

Many authors and illustrators of children's books have posted videos suitable for primary school aged children on YouTube. Please remember online safety advice, be present when your child is accessing YouTube, and ensure that the Autoplay function is OFF.

Happy Reading!
While schools are closed, Audible has made a wonderful collection of audiobooks available for children to listen to FREE OF CHARGE!

Learn to draw with Rob Biddulph!

The amazing children's book illustrator Rob Biddulph is regularly posting videos on his website which will teach you to draw some characters that you will recognise from books we have in school. I would love to make a display in the library of any artwork that you bring in when we all return to school.

Happy drawing!
An exciting stack of new books were purchased in March, in response to requests from pupils. We are very grateful to the Parent Fundraising Group for their generosity in funding these.
In the summer term of 2018 Mrs Earp had a vision to transform the old stock cupboard in the school hall into a library. With assistance from a team of Staff and Pupils this was achieved and we now have a gorgeous space dedicated to books and reading to encourage a culture of "reading for pleasure" !

Each class attended a "book tasting" picnic during September to look at a range of age-appropriate books and try out some authors or genres that they had not considered before.
Book displays outside the library change regularly and might just inspire you to pick up a new book!
We are always very grateful for the many generous donations of books that families give to our library and we are happy to listen to any requests or recommendations that pupils make.
Sign up to become a Library ambassador this year. Have your own shelf and make book recommendations. Be the first to sample any new books.
Our Library is open every week after school on a Wednesday and Thursday evening. Feel free to pop in on any of these nights to change your book.
Visit the library each week during class time. See if you can find books that link to your curriculum topic.
Visit the library after school on a Wednesday and Thursday night or on a Friday lunchtime. Use the library to read on line and complete your Bug Club activities. Use the library for personal research.

WHEN IN DOUBT - HEAD TO THE LIBRARY!
Please come and hear Sarah Cook speak to all parents on the topics of hearing children read at home fostering a love of reading in the family on Friday 13th December at 1:45 in the school hall. You are warmly invited to share a book and a hot chocolate with your child in their classroom afterwards.
