11th November 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

This Week in School

It may feel a little too soon to be singing Christmas hymns, but our school festivities are fast approaching! Our wonderful musical volunteers, Anne Twort and Mary Tighe, have already begun teaching the children the songs that will be performed during our Christmas Carol Concert. I know I won’t be giving too much away if I tell you the sound is quite magical!  I have also heard a lot of behind the scenes talk and preparation for the Nativity. Please do add the dates for these events to your calendar, as we wouldn’t want you to miss out on the excitement and joy these events can bring. The dates are listed at the end of this newsletter.

I also had a telegram from a certain jolly friend of mine from the North Pole this week, who is busy making his own preparations for the Christmas season and will be donning his red suit again soon. If the children are very well behaved in the coming weeks, he may find time to pop by and say hello. I will certainly be keeping my fingers crossed that he can find time in his busy schedule to make a St George’s visit. Watch this space!

In other news, we have had the wonderful Mr Hanratty join us this week in an assembly to remind us of the story of Missy the Mouse, one of our learning mindset characters. And he will be back again next week to lead our Maths Wow Assembly. We are very lucky to have his continued support and his enthusiasm is inspiring for both staff and pupils alike.

Introducing our new School Therapy Dog

We are very excited to inform you that our new SENDCo (Mrs MacNamara) has a therapy dog called Nuala, who is very comfortable around children and has lots of experience as a school therapy dog. We have completed the necessary risk assessments and are very happy that Nuala will make a wonderful addition to our emotional support team when she visits. Please do get in touch if your child has any allergies we should know about, or any anxieties around dogs.

Parent Support Group

Thank you to the parents who attended the PSG meeting on Wednesday. We are so grateful for the enthusiasm and generosity of spirit they have displayed in coming forward to support the school in putting on some memorable events for the children and raising some funds for the school in the process. The disco/movie nights will be held on 13th January and 3rd February. More detailed information will follow from the PSG soon.

Anti-Bullying Week

Next week is Anti-Bullying Week in the UK. Bullying affects millions of lives and can leave those who experience it feeling hopeless. But it doesn’t have to be this way. If we challenge it, we can change it. And it starts by reaching out. We can reflect on our own behaviour, set positive examples and create kinder communities. In support of this, we are asking children to wear odd socks on Monday, 14th November. We will also be talking to the children about what to do if they experience or see bullying so together, we can be the change we want to see.

Reception Intake Applications

Time to start school? If you have a child born between 1st September 2018 and 31st August 2019, then now is the time to apply for a place at our school for admission from September 2023 onwards. You must complete an application form that is available from the school admissions team at County Hall, Somerset County Council. Please ensure you apply by the closing date of 15 January 2023. If your child is Catholic, you must also provide a copy of the baptism certificate to the school by this date.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
