8th December 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

This Week in School

It has been a jolly week of angelic singing, happy hoedowns and Christmas sparkle at St George’s. If you know, you know! Thank you to all who attended the EYFS and KS1 Nativities that were held this week. We were all so proud of the children for the fantastic effort and talent they displayed. What confident singers and performers they are! A reminder that our Christmas Carol Concert is taking place next Wednesday 13th December at 2pm in Church, and parents and carers are warmly invited to join us. We will also be celebrating our end of term Mass in school the following week on Tuesday 19th December in Church at 9.30am, and you are of course welcome and encouraged to attend this service too.

Can I offer a special thank you to the staff who work so hard in preparing the children for these performances and special occasions. They make it look very easy but as you can imagine, a lot of time, effort and Christmas spirit goes into putting on such well-organised and entertaining events! Well done to staff and children alike.

Recent Election Results for our Parent Governor Vacancy

We are pleased to announce the results of our recent Parent Governor election. The turnout was very positive, and the result very close.

Below is a breakdown of the votes:

Rares Busnea - 25 votes

Maria Ions - 31 votes

Emil Toshev - 27 votes

Congratulations to Maria Ions on her successful appointment to our School Governing Body, and thank you to all parents who participated in the election.

Recent Charity Collections

We are pleased to give you the updated total for our recent Poppy Appeal collection for the Royal British Legion. The final total donated by our school community was a whopping £373.81!

Also this week, we held a collection for the Children’s Hospice South West during our Nativity performances and the amount raised was £120.35. We are so grateful to our school community for their kindness and generosity of spirit in donating to these worthy causes.

Also this month, our very special friend, Santa Claus himself, has been out in all weathers collecting for the school on behalf of the PSG. We will update you on the total raised after Christmas, once we have the finals figures in. In the meantime, on behalf of the school community, I would like to thank Santa for donating his time to support us!

Christmas Hamper Raffle 2023

As you may know, our Parent Support Group are organising the Christmas Hamper Raffle again this year.

We would like to remind you that the closing date for purchasing tickets for the draw is next Thursday, 14th December and the winners will be drawn in a special assembly on Friday, 15th December. If we are lucky, a very special visitor will join us for the occasion and we really Ho Ho Ho-pe he can make it!!

Thank you once again to our PSG for their hard work in organising the Hamper Raffle. We are so grateful for their support of our school community.

Amenities/Swimming Contributions

Please can I remind all parents and carers that each year, we ask for a voluntary contribution of

£10 per term per child for swimming, and £10 per term for each family for School Amenities.

The school has always traditionally asked parents and carers for an amenity contribution. The Amenities Fund allows the school to give children extra opportunities and experiences such as visiting artists, performers and sport companies. We feel it is crucial that the children continue to have these WOW moments and with the rising costs of funding school everts and maintaining and running the swimming pool, we would really appreciate your contribution to allow this to continue.

Payments for Swimming and Amenities can be paid online, details are as follows:

Bank Account Number: 02887152 Sort-Code: 30-98-45

Please quote reference S for Swimming and A for Amenities

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
