Dear Parents and Carers,

This Week in School

I was lucky enough, this week and last, to teach and spend some time in various classes across the school. I am always impressed by our pupils and their joyful, hard-working and motivated attitudes to learning. Alongside the pupils, the team at St George’s is a really hard-working one, and we all pitch in when necessary to keep things running smoothly. I am always struck by how flexible and amenable the staff are and I want to extend my thanks to them for all they do to make our school a happy, successful place where quality learning takes place every day. I am lucky enough to see ‘behind the scenes’ and what is noticeable is that our staff members go above and beyond every day for the children, working incredibly long hours beyond the school day, into their evenings and weekends, all for the benefit of our pupils.

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the special place that the school is, and how lucky we are to have such an extraordinary school community. I look forward to coming to work every day, and this is in no small part due to the fantastic staff, pupils and parents who make it such a wonderful place to be.

Upcoming Parent’s Evenings

As you know, we will hold our parent’s evening appointments on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th February. Many of you have already booked appointments to see your child’s teacher. This will be a great opportunity for you to find out how they are getting on at school. Please ensure you arrive in plenty of time for your booked slot and don’t forget to pop into your child’s classroom to see examples of their hard work this term.

If you have yet to book your appointment, there is still time to do this. The bookings will close on Sunday evening at 9pm.

We will be selling second-hand uniform (shirts, polos, trousers and jumpers) at the parent’s evenings next week, so have a look to see if there is anything suitable there that you require. There will be a donation pot, so please bring along some cash/coins so you can make a donation. Thank you for your support with this.

Children’s Mental Health Week

Next week is Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is ‘My Voice Matters’. On Monday, we will hold a special whole school assembly to mark the occasion and this will be followed up by activities throughout the week. There will be some information available in the school hall during the parent’s evening appointments, so look out for this. Thank you to Mr Lake and Mrs Farthing for organising and for further information, please visit: https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/

Ordering Hot Lunches

The office staff would like to remind parents and carers that the cut off day for ordering hot lunches for the following week is Wednesday. On occasions when you have forgotten to order hot lunches, it is essential that you provide packed lunches for your child the following week.

The cut off date for ordering hot lunches for the first week back after half-term is Wednesday 14th February. Thank you for your support with this.

Have You Paid Your Amenities/Swimming Contributions?

Please can I remind all parents and carers that each year, we ask for a voluntary contribution of

£10 per term per child for swimming, and £10 per term for each family for School Amenities.

The school has always traditionally asked parents and carers for an amenity contribution. The Amenities Fund allows the school to give children extra opportunities and experiences such as visiting artists, performers and sport companies. We feel it is crucial that the children continue to have these WOW moments and with the rising costs of funding school everts and maintaining and running the swimming pool, we would really appreciate your contribution to allow this to continue.

Payments for Swimming and Amenities can be paid online, details are as follows:

Bank Account Number: 02887152 Sort-Code: 30-98-45

Please quote reference S for Swimming and A for Amenities

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
