Dear Parents and Carers,

This Week in School

What a fantastic week we have had in school to finish off the Spring Term. It was wonderful to see so many parents from our school community attend the Stations of the Cross on Wednesday morning. The children, as usual, rose to the occasion and they almost raised the roof with their wonderful singing. We were so proud of their exemplary behaviour at this event, which for obvious reasons is traditionally a sombre occasion. It was truly moving to hear the children sing in praise so beautifully, and the choir added their harmonies to wonderful effect. We would like to thank our choir volunteers for their part in making the event a wonderful success.

The Stations was followed by our End of Term Mass, which was held in school on Thursday morning. If it is possible, the children sang even more confidently (and jubilantly) at the Mass and it was a real celebration, with Fr Tom presiding. I would like to thank the Year 6 children who led the Mass beautifully, and all the staff and volunteers who were involved in preparing for it.

Mr Davies

As many of you know, the wonderful Mr Davies is retiring. Those of you who know Mr Davies well will know he is a true gentleman. I have had the pleasure of standing at the gate with him this last year, and I jokingly refer to him as my work husband! We have shared many a laugh and funny moment over the last year, and I feel so lucky to have had the chance to work with him so closely. I know I can speak for all of the staff when I say he will be truly missed. Today was due to be his last day, but sadly as he is unwell, he was unable to be with us in school.

Thankfully, he has kindly agreed to come back to see us after Easter to say a final farewell to the children and our St George’s Community. We know many of you wish to thank him for his hard work and friendship over the last 5 years. If you would like to wave him off and wish him well in his retirement, he will join me at the gate one last time at the end of the school day on Monday 17th April.

Staffing

I would like to inform you that another dear member of our team is leaving. Mrs Marchant, our happy, creative, caring Year 3 teaching assistant is changing career. After many years lovingly supporting the children in our school to develop and grow in mind, body and spirit, she will be finding new adventures in her new office job and is looking forward to a new challenge. She will be greatly missed by staff and children alike and we would like to wish her every success in her new role.

In other news, our wonderful Year 6 Teacher Mrs Gavins will be leaving us at the end of this academic year. We have been very lucky to have her as part of the St George's team for almost six years now and are very grateful for all her hard work and dedication as Year 3 and Year 6 teacher, as Maths subject lead and in leading the Masses at our school. Mrs Gavins will be joining Nerrols Primary School in September and will continue to bring learning to life with their younger students. We know they will count themselves very lucky to have her as part of their team and we wish her every success in her new role.

 Car Park

A polite reminder that we require parents to reverse into car parking spaces on our playground at morning drop off and at the end of the school day. I have noticed an increasing number of cars not doing this, and as we all know, reversing out of a space on our car park can be very dangerous. Please can I ask for your support in sticking to this rule, for the safety and benefit of all our St George’s community.

Easter Break

The school will reopen on Monday, 17th April after a well-deserved two week break for the children and staff. We hope you have a fantastic time, whatever you do, and we look forward to seeing you on the other side!

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
