Dear Parents and Carers,
This Week in School
We held a successful start of term Mass at St George’s Church this week, and the children really represented the school well with their behaviour. It is a long time to ask the children to sit in quiet stillness, and it is a credit to them that they understood how important it is to be reverent and respectful in Church. It was wonderful to have Fr David leading a school Mass again, and his Homily was very inspiring. He was very encouraging of the children and asked them to remember, in life, to always do the loving thing. It is a simple message, but one that the children have taken to heart and it has been a joy seeing how they have tried to embody this for the rest of the school week. Perhaps there will be an occasion at home in the coming days when you can praise your child for taking this advice to heart and showing their understanding through their actions. We will certainly look for occasions to do this in school, as well.

Meet the Teachers – Wednesday 17th September – Years 1-6
You are invited to attend our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions at 3pm on Wednesday 17th September from 3.05pm onwards. Your child’s new teacher invites parents to visit the classroom to have a look at some resources and will informally introduce themselves. It is an excellent opportunity for teachers and parents alike to say hello and put a face to the name. When you introduce yourself, it is helpful to say which child’s parent you are, as with a sea of new faces, it can be tricky for staff to recognise this. Meanwhile, I will hold an assembly in the school hall for pupils at 3pm. The children will be available for collection from their usual collection points from 3.25pm.
Understand Phonics for EYFS/Reception Class Parents
A Phonics Workshop will take place on Thursday, 2nd October at 2.40pm for our Reception Class parents. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of how you can support your child at home with reading, so we encourage as many of you as possible to attend.
The workshop will be held in the main school Hall. Please Park on site in the usual way and come to the school entrance/foyer to attend.
Clubs at St George’s
This is our clubs timetable this half-term. Teachers will make contact directly with the parents of the relevant children, so please check your emails. If you have any questions, please email the school office. Thank you.
Best wishes,
Edwina McDonnell
Headteacher
