16th May 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
This Week in School
We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils for completing their KS2 SATs with such determination, resilience and positivity. Your hard work, perseverance and commitment have truly shone through, and you should all feel proud of what you have achieved. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff, whose dedication and support have guided our pupils every step of the way. Although the SATs are behind us, the learning never stops! We look forward to seeing Year 6 enjoy their final weeks at St George’s Catholic School, making lasting memories and continuing to grow together in mind, body and spirit. Finally, we hope you all have an enjoyable and fun filled weekend – you survived!
School Calendar
Please see attached the school calendar with INSET dates for next year. Please make a note of these key dates, so you can ensure pupils are present in school and can achieve their best possible attendance. Thank you in advance for your support with this.
School Lunch Boxes
As a school, we monitor children’s lunches to ensure that they are healthy and balanced, with enough food to sustain, in order that our pupils have the best fuel for the school day. To support our families in making positive and informed lunchbox choices, we would like to provide parents with some information on how best to achieve this. According to nutritionists, children who eat a wholesome and well-rounded lunch in school are better able to concentrate and learn. Good food habits are set early in childhood and can last a lifetime. As lunches provide around one third of our daily nutritional needs, ensuring they are healthy and balanced is a big step in ensuring your child eats well and is ready to learn at school. More information and healthy lunch ideas are provided in the links below:
We hope you will find this information useful.

Marian Mass at Church – Sunday 18th May
You are all warmly invited to our ‘Family Mass’ on Sunday 18th May at St George’s Church, at 9.15am. This will be a Marian themed Mass in celebration of Our Lady, with the school choir leading the hymns, and our pupils leading the readings. We hope you can join us!
A Message from Somerset Libraries:
‘Celebrating Somerset’ – watch Inspirational short films to connect with nature in Somerset
If you’re looking for ideas for free days out at the weekends or in school holidays, take a look at some new short films that have been produced by Somerset Libraries. These inspirational films have top tips on how to make the most of connecting with nature. The films are presented by local nature partners who are experts in exploring local landscapes – from rock-pooling and fossil hunting to bird watching and bug-spotting. Visit the ‘Celebrating Somerset’ webpage to explore the films: https://glassboxtaunton.co.uk/celebrating-somerset/
PSG Update and Meeting
Information from the PSG (Parents Support Group) regarding our Summer Fete on Friday 20th June has been sent out.
It is not too late to lend your support and more help is needed to ensure the event is as successful as it has been in previous years. Please contact Liz (Beatrice’s Mum in Year 1) if you are interested in volunteering. Contact details are in the email.
Pre-School Gate – Safeguarding Issue
It has been brought to our attention that the gate allowing access from the pre-school through to St George’s School is occasionally being propped open at the beginning and end of the school day. Leaving the gate open poses a safeguarding risk to our pupils. We appreciate that those with pushchairs or prams need to prop the gate open for access but we politely request that parents close the gate once they have gone through. If we find the issue is not resolved, we may need to reconsider access to school via this gate. Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.
I hope you enjoy the sunshine this weekend with your families.
Best wishes,
Edwina McDonnell
Headteacher
