Dear Parents and Carers,

Hot Weather

With another spell of hot weather forecast next week, we will be making a few temporary adjustments to help keep everyone as comfortable as possible. Pupils may wear their PE kit throughout the week, along with cooler footwear such as sandals, provided they are secure and suitable for running and playing. If your child chooses to wear sandals or crocs, please ensure they also bring a pair of trainers on their PE day.

We are planning for PE lessons to go ahead as normal earlier in the week. However, if temperatures increase further, we may adapt activities or switch some lessons to swimming instead. Please keep an eye on your emails for any updates.

As always during hot weather, please ensure your child comes to school with a named water bottle, a sun hat and sunscreen already applied before the start of the school day. Thank you for your support as we work together to keep everyone safe in the heat.

Diocesan Monitoring Visit

Last Friday, we had a Diocesan monitoring visit. This was not an inspection, but rather a mid-way visit from the Diocese to see how the school is getting on with its previous Section 48 inspection targets and to offer support in order to prepare for the next inspection visit.

The visit provided an opportunity for an experienced inspector to spend time in school, speaking with pupils and staff, visiting lessons, joining worship, reviewing pupils' work and meeting with school leaders.

The report recognises many of the strengths of St George's. Inspectors found that "Catholic life and mission is embedded throughout the whole school" and that "the strong relationships across the school are a result of everyone being treated with dignity and kindness." They also described behaviour as "exemplary" and our pupils as "confident and articulate."

There were also a small number of helpful recommendations to support our continued development. We are grateful for such positive feedback and proud that the report recognises the commitment shown each day by our staff, pupils, governors and the wider school and parish community.

Summer Fete

Today is our much-anticipated Summer Fete and we are all looking forward to welcoming families onto the school field after school. With 18 stalls, games, refreshments and performances from our pupils, it promises to be a fantastic afternoon and a great opportunity to spend time together as a school community.

A huge thank you to our Parents' Support Group for the time, energy and organisation that has gone into making today's event possible. We'd also like to thank everyone who has donated cakes, prizes, uniform, craft creations and their time in supporting the fete. Events like this simply couldn't happen without so many people pulling together. We hope to see as many of you there as possible and wish everyone an enjoyable afternoon.

Amenities and Swimming

Please can we remind parents that have yet to pay, that this term’s contribution for your child’s swimming lessons - £10 per term per child, is due. Can we also remind you that the amenities contribution of £10 is due. This allows us to fund our exciting extracurricular events such as theatre companies, performers and visiting artists. This should be paid to the school bank account, ending in 7152. Please quote reference ‘S’ for Swimming and ‘A’ for Amenities. Please contact the school office if you have any queries about this.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell

Headteacher
