Dear Parents and Carers,
This Week in School
I would like to say a very big ‘thank you’ to the staff, volunteers, pupils and their families who attended the Mass on Sunday to support with the school choir and school readers. The children were phenomenal – they read confidently, sang beautifully and represented their school and their families with grace and maturity. I’m pleased to say they were rewarded with a visit by our Bishop, Bishop Bosco, who arrived at St George’s Church a week early to lead the Mass. What a wonderful experience for our pupils, and a fantastic opportunity for our Bishop to see the talents of our pupils! Well done to all involved.
Uniform Appeal
We are pleased to make links with a school in West Africa who have asked for our help. The Sei School is in the village of Sei, on a tranquil island of the Turtle Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off Sierra Leone in West Africa. They are currently in the process of building a new school building, with the support of charitable benefactors who visited the island last year, to replace the shack in which lessons currently take place.
Excellent progress is being made on the new building, and it will be ready in the coming weeks and months. In preparation for the project being completed, the Headteacher has put out an appeal for school uniform. The pupils are excited to attend their new school and would be very pleased to wear second hand garments, as they want to look smart when they attend. St George’s Catholic School has supported schools abroad in the past with second-hand uniform, and I include a photo below of some school children in Kenya wearing our donated uniform.
Donations of second-hand school uniform are greatly appreciated for this worthy cause.
Year 6 Assembly
On Wednesday 11th June, Year 6 will be having their class assembly. This will take place in the main School Hall at 3pm and is sure to be a wonderful event. We hope that our Year 6 parents can join us.
School Calendar
Please see attached the school calendar with INSET dates for next year. Please make a note of these key dates, so you can ensure pupils are present in school and can achieve their best possible attendance. Thank you in advance for your support with this.
Road Safety and Transition to Secondary School
The THINK! ‘Safe Adventures’ campaign aims to help parents across the country prepare their children for independent travel when they move to secondary school. Road casualty data shows that the number of child pedestrian casualties’ doubles between the ages of 9 and 11, with incidents more likely to happen during drop-off and pick up times. This article explains more: ‘Safe Adventures’ supporting children as they move to secondary school – THINK!
PSG Update
As you know by now, we are aiming to run our Summer Fete on Friday 20th June.
We would be very grateful of additional parent/carer helpers, to ensure the event can go ahead and can be as successful as it has been in previous years. It is a wonderful event, and the children always look forward to it.
Please contact Liz (Beatrice’s Mum in Year 1) if you can offer your support or fill in the slip that went home with pupils today and return this to the school office.
Mufti Day – Rainbow Raffle
Please note that we are having a mufti-day on Friday 6th June in exchange for a donation to our Rainbow Raffle. Please see the information that went out in an email from our Parent Support Group.

Edwina McDonnell
