6th February 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

Parents Evening

We look forward to seeing you at our Parents’ Evening on Monday 9th February and Tuesday 10th February. Staff will do their best to ensure conversations are meaningful and timely, and we thank parents in advance for helping appointments to run smoothly by arriving promptly and keeping to time.

Attendance matters

Regular attendance plays a vital role in children’s learning, wellbeing and confidence. Being in school every day, on time, helps pupils build strong routines, keep up with learning and feel secure as part of their class community. Absences, including holidays taken during term time, can disrupt learning and have a negative impact on pupils’ progress. We really appreciate the efforts families make to prioritise attendance and punctuality, and we’re always here to support if there are difficulties impacting this. If you have any concerns around attendance, please don’t hesitate to speak to us — early conversations can make a big difference.

Wet Weather

With the current wet weather, children will still be spending time outdoors when it is safe to do so. Please help by sending them to school with a waterproof coat and appropriate footwear so they can enjoy playtimes comfortably. We are grateful for your support with this.

Children’s Mental Health Week

Children’s Mental Health Week (9–15 February) is a chance to focus on children’s wellbeing and emotional health. A range of free resources is available to support families, including simple activities to help children talk about their feelings, wellbeing ideas for home, and links to local Somerset services offering advice and support. These resources can help parents continue to support their child’s mental health both during the week and beyond.

Reading at St George’s

Thank you for your continued support with reading at home. Regular reading plays a vital role in helping children develop confidence, fluency and a love of books. Even a short daily reading session can make a big difference to progress, vocabulary and comprehension.

Reading together at home also gives children the opportunity to talk about stories, ask questions and share ideas, which helps to deepen understanding and enjoyment. We really appreciate the time families spend supporting this and encourage parents to contact class teachers if they would like advice or ideas for supporting reading at home.

Book Review

To encourage our avid readers, we would like to include a book review in our weekly newsletter. We are asking pupils to write reviews of the books they love and would like to recommend to others. These can then be submitted to the class teacher, or sent to the school office, for inclusion in the school newsletter. Submissions can be handwritten or electronic. I

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell

Headteacher
