Dear Parents and Carers,

This Week in School

After last week’s fantastic news about a group of our pupil’s becoming County Champions in Athletics, I am delighted to say we have even more exciting news this week!

Mrs Karen Roberts, our fantastic EAL teacher, recently put the school forward for the EAL Quality Award kitemark, and she was very pleased to hear this week that the assessor has judged the school’s provision for EAL pupils to be at a GOLD standard!

What a wonderful confirmation of the hard work that Mrs Roberts, and the team at St George’s, have put into ensuring that their practice is outstanding and meets the needs of our EAL pupils.

The assessor was very impressed with the teaching strategies he observed consistently across the school and remarked that research shows that the use of these strategies is enormously beneficial, not just to EAL pupils, but to all pupils at the school.

I am very grateful to Mrs Roberts for the passion and enthusiasm she has shown for leading our school in our EAL provision and support, and incredibly proud of the staff who employ a wide range of strategies to ensure our EAL pupils make rapid progress, above what is achieved by most schools.

I hope you will take a moment to celebrate with us and share our appreciation for the vibrant, multi-cultural community at St George’s, which enriches and enhances our school community.

Parents’ Evening

Parents’ evening will be taking place on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th February. Please see exact timings below. Bookings open at 9am Saturday morning.

Keeping Contact Details Up to Date

Occasionally, the school office needs to get in touch with parents about their child. It is important that we have up to date contact information for all families so that we can inform you of any incidents or emergencies. Please can you contact the school office as soon as possible if you have had a change of phone number, email or home address and we will update your child’s records as a matter of urgency. Thank you for your support with this.

I hope you have a restful weekend.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell

Headteacher
