Dear Parents and Carers,

Successful Sports Days

We held two very successful sports days this week and we were very blessed with the weather. It is great that we didn’t need to use our ‘back-up’ dates!

I’m sure you will all join me in expressing a very big ‘THANK YOU’ to the wonderful Mr C. What a fantastic job he did organising the afternoons for all to enjoy. The children, and indeed the school community, is very lucky to have him making sports fun for everyone. He works very hard to make the event competitive, while ensuring it is inclusive for all children. I hope you will agree, that he has more than achieved this!

A final thank you to all the parents, carers and extended family members who joined us for the event. We were so thrilled to see you there and are sure you enjoyed the event as much as we did!

School Art Exhibition

Mrs Crocker and her team of helpers are also to be thanked for organising a wonderful art exhibition, where our talented pupils’ art-work was displayed for all to see and enjoy. We had so many positive comments from parents, staff and pupils alike. It was a joy to see our school community appreciating the efforts of our budding artists. There are some photos on the Google Classroom on the school’s Events Page if you missed the exhibition.

Lockdown Drill

We will be carrying out a lockdown drill at St George’s Catholic School soon, as recommended by the Department for Education (DfE). A lockdown drill is a practice that helps us to ensure everyone in our school knows what to do to keep safe if there is ever an emergency where we need to stay inside the building. Please be reassured that we will explain the drill to the children in an age-appropriate and sensitive way, so they understand it is just a practice and there is no cause for alarm. We have a Lockdown Storybook, appropriate for primary-aged children, ready to read to our pupils in an assembly. We will share with the children beforehand what they can expect, and will answer any questions they have to provide reassurance.

We encourage you to talk to your child about the drill at home, and if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are aware that some of our pupils require a more individualised approach and this has been taken into consideration by each class teacher and reviewed by our SENDco. As always, if you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Did You Know?

We have a dedicated page on our school website to inform parents of our safeguarding offer. On this page, you will find lots of useful information and support, for all your safeguarding needs. This can also be used ‘out of hours’ to assist you in reporting any concerns you may have. There are contact details, not only for our school, but for external, local support agencies, which you may find useful. Please follow this link for further details: https://www.st-georges-somerset.org.uk/web/safeguarding/685605

Year 2 Assembly

On Wednesday 18th June, Year 2 will be having their class assembly. This will take place in the main School Hall at 3 o’clock and is sure to be an enjoyable event. We hope that our Year 2 parents can join us. Arrival at 2.50pm for a prompt 3pm start.

Rainbow Raffle – Raffle Tickets

As you may know, raffle ticket booklets went home in bookbags this week for your opportunity to enter our Rainbow Raffle. Please return these, with details filled in, and the required cash amount to the school office ahead of our Summer Fete next Friday. If you do not intend to buy tickets, or have some spares, please return these to the school office, as these will be resold. Thank you in advance for your continued support.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
