Dear Parents and Carers,

St George’s Book Fayre

On Monday 1st December, we will be holding a festive Christmas Book Fayre after school in the Main Hall until 5pm and everyone is warmly invited to come along. There will be a wonderful selection of books for all ages, from exciting stories and magical Christmas tales to fun non-fiction and activity books, making it a perfect chance to choose some early gifts or treats for holiday reading. Families are encouraged to visit together, browse the books, and enjoy the cosy seasonal atmosphere. We will be accepting payment by card and cash but if you are unable to accompany your child and want to send them in with some money to choose a book for themselves then that will be acceptable too.

Parkrun Assembly and Exciting Event Opportunity

We were thrilled to be visited by our very own Kate Rowe (Amelie’s Mum – Year 4) for a wonderful assembly to promote the Junior Parkrun. She was joined by another Parkrun volunteer, and they led a fantastic assembly which enthused and delighted our pupils and staff alike.

Junior Parkrun is a free, friendly 2km event for children aged 4–14 and their families, where everyone is welcome to walk, jog or run. St George’s Catholic School is delighted to support the Longrun Meadow Junior Parkrun on Sunday 7th December at 9.00am. Please see the accompanying letter which explains the event in more details. We encourage all pupils, staff and families to come along and enjoy this positive community experience together.

Class Projects

We were delighted to welcome parents into school this week to support our pupils’ learning. Parents have been in helping Class 4 with a sewing project. On Thursday, some parents joined Year 3 to help with their Christmas decoration project, and on Friday, parent helpers took part in a Christmas stocking sewing activity with Year 2. Next week, Reception/EYFS parents are invited to a ‘Stay & Play’ session with their children.

Inviting families into the classroom provides a wonderful opportunity for pupils to share their learning, build confidence and strengthen the home–school partnership. Each class will offer one such experience during the year, and we are grateful to our parent community for their enthusiasm and support.

Recent Charitable Collections

We would like to thank you, our fantastic school community, for your generous contributions to our most recent charitable collections. We are pleased to inform you that we have raised £153 for CAFOD on our recent mufti-day, and £197.12 for Children in Need. Your kindness and support make a real difference—thank you!

Swimming Reminder

Swimming is an important part of our PE curriculum, and all children are expected to take part. Children who are well enough to be in school are generally well enough to join their swimming lesson. Please ensure your child brings their full swimming kit on their class swimming day, including a towel, swimwear, goggles and a swimming hat. Thank you for your support in enabling children to take part fully in this important part of the St George’s curriculum.

Safeguarding at St George’s

Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do at St George’s. We work hard to ensure that every child feels safe, valued and well supported, and we want our families to feel confident in the measures we have in place. We invite all parents and carers to visit the safeguarding section of our website, where you can find our policies, key contacts and useful guidance. Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.

Christmas Dinner Day and Christmas Jumper Swap

Our festive Christmas lunch will take place on Thursday 18th December and we are encouraging the children to wear a Christmas jumper if they have one. Don’t forget to log into iPayImpact to order your child a Christmas lunch this day, but only if they want one!

In addition, this year we will host a Christmas jumper swap. Please bring in children’s Christmas jumpers that no longer fit to the school office, and we will provide you with a token. When enough jumpers have been collected in, we will invite token holders to have the first look at the jumpers, and if they find something suitable, they can swap their token for a jumper! We will then sell any remaining jumpers for a small donation to the school.

I hope you have a restful weekend.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell

Headteacher
