Dear Parents and Carers,

This Week in School

The week got off to a smashing start with a very lively and exciting football tournament for KS2 pupils. The St George’s Team played four games against local primary schools and we are delighted to report that the boys won every game, and kept a clean sheet in three of the games! What a fantastic achievement.

The team showed resilience, determination, team spirit and hard work in the games they played, and I was a very proud Headteacher standing on the sidelines. Well done to Mr Chidgey and the

St George’s players who worked so hard and achieved so well. We wish them all the best in the next round of the Tournament!

Today, Tempest Photography had a successful visit to the school and if you look in bookbags, you will find samples of photos to order online. We hope you will be very happy with your child’s photos.

Harvest Mass in Church, Sunday 15th October at 9.15am

You are invited to the Harvest Family Mass this Sunday! If your child is reading, they have practiced with me and taken a copy of their reading home. Please have another little practice with your child so they are confident on the day. If you would like your child to take part in the carrying of the gifts, please bring a food tin, or another item from the attached list. The Church is having a Harvest collection for the Open-Door charity. During the Mass, when it is time for the offertory, please send your child to the back of the Church with their gift so they can join in. Adults from school will support the children in walking to the altar with the gifts. We look forward to seeing you there!

Children’s Belongings

I have been made aware of some parent’s concerns regarding children’s belongings being left in school, for example, jumpers. We understand parent’s frustrations when children leave their jumpers in school overnight. The children receive regular reminders to take their belongings home with them and they are given ample time at the end of the school day to collect their things. As a school, we feel it is important (especially as they get older) for parents to encourage their children to take responsibility for their belongings. The staff always support by giving regular reminders to children, and by helping to locate missing items of clothing. Staff members return jumpers and other items to children’s pegs when they are found lying around (on the field for instance, or left in the school dinner hall) and are named. Unnamed items are brought to the lost and found. If your child has missing items of clothing, please speak to the class teacher on the playground at the end of the day, speak to the office staff who can pass on a message, or send an email to the office or class teacher. Thank you for your understanding.

Harvest Festival

A reminder that the Harvest Festival will take place next Friday at 9.30 am in the main school hall. We warmly invite parents to attend. Please arrive from 9.15 onwards to secure a seat. After the Harvest Festival, parents are welcome to join us in the Busy Room for tea, coffee and biscuits, to be served by our Year 6 Chaplains. We will ask those who attend for a small donation to CAFOD. We look forward to seeing you there!

Parent’s Evening

A reminder that parent teacher meetings will be taking place next week on Monday and Tuesday.

We are very pleased to offer these parent’s evening appointments so that your child’s teacher can inform you of how they have settled into their new class. Please be aware that these are short appointments, and the time slots must be strictly adhered to. We would ask that if you know you have an issue to discuss with your child’s teacher that will cause the appointment to run over, that you speak to the teacher in advance of this meeting.

Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
