15th March 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

This Week in School

We were treated to a visit from the wonderful Mr Hanratty this morning. Mr Hanratty retired as Headteacher of St George’s in 2017, after 26 years in the role. He is a much beloved member of our school community, and he always receives a warm welcome from staff and pupils alike. Mr Hanratty is an avid Mathematician and led a very fun Maths Challenge morning for the Year 6 pupils. There were lots of smiles throughout the morning and of course Mr Hanratty had organised, not only team and individual prizes, but a class prize as well. We were so pleased to see him in school today, and even happier when he told Mr Hughes he would be returning for another Maths Challenge in the Summer Term.

As you know, today is Red Nose Day and it was lovely to see the children come to school in their mufti to support the cause. As you can imagine, our Golden Book Assembly was a veritable sea of red! Thank you for your support of this wonderful cause. We are pleased to inform you that, with your generous support, we raised £172! Please click here for further information on how your money helps, how to get involved and for online access to the Red Nose Day shop.

Year 1 Parent’s Evening

Mrs Crocker will hold parent’s evening appointments on Monday 25th March from 5pm to 7.30pm and on Tuesday 26th March from 2pm to 4.30pm. The appointments are now available on the school website for Year 1 parents to book. As always, if you have any queries regarding this or experience any difficulties, contact the school office staff who will be happy to help.

The Swimming Pool

Our IT technician, Mr White, has created a useful webpage for parents and staff to check the operational status of the swimming pool. He will update the temperature and status of our pool every morning by 7:15AM and the results will be published on the following link:

https://stgeorgestaunton.school/pool/

If parents are unsure if the pool is operational, they can click on the link to find the last time the page was updated and what the status of the pool is. The webpages displays the information as set out below. We hope you will find this information useful.

Year 6 Class Assembly

We would like to invite Year 6 parents to attend the Year 6 Class Assembly on Wednesday 20th March. Please arrive at 2.50pm for a 3pm start. We hope to see you there.

CAFOD Lenten Campaign

A reminder that we have set the children the challenge of filling up their class CAFOD box with spare change and pocket money this Lent. Any class that successfully manages to fill their box, as a treat, will receive an extra playtime!

In supporting CAFOD, your money goes a long way.

  • Just 1p and 2p can vaccinate 10 children against life-threatening diseases.
  • Your 20p and 50p can buy a treated mosquito net that keeps children safe from malaria.
  • £1 and £2 will be used to provide clean water for 3 families.

This Lent, if we put our small change together, we can make a BIG difference!

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
