Dear Parents and Carers,
This Week in School
We are almost there –only one week left! In true St George’s form, we haven’t started winding down just yet, and this week was one of our busiest so far. We started off on Monday with a lovely assembly, led by Father Tom and a visiting priest (Father Andras) who is newly ordained and excited to begin in his mission to share the Holy Spirit with others.
On Wednesday, Year 4 performed in a Class Assembly to the whole school and their parents and carers. Mrs Potter reported that the children were confident and the assembly was very entertaining, and enjoyed by all who were present. Well done to the children and staff who put so much time and effort into preparing the assembly.
We also had a wonderful ‘Wow’ Music Exit Assembly on Friday morning, in which each class performed a song (many including instruments such as shakers, glockenspiels and ukuleles) to the whole school. We were all so impressed by the quality of the performances and it was a very lively and entertaining event. On a very grey and rainy day, the children lifted our spirits with their energetic performance and their wonderful singing. We are so grateful for their talent!
Key Stage 2 SATs Results
We are delighted to report that we had our KS2 SATs results returned this week and very happily, we are above the national average in every area! This is a marvellous achievement and is a credit to the hard work of the children themselves and the staff who have taught them, not only this year but throughout their learning journey at our school. We know that SATs results are not the ‘be all and end all’. So, we celebrate the overall results with a healthy dose of awareness that they are merely a snapshot in time of how each child answered a particular set of questions on a particular day. Indeed, some of the papers were very tricky, and concern about this was expressed by teachers and parents nationwide. So, whatever the individual results, please praise your child for the real achievement – turning up to school every day with a positive learning mindset and a fantastic work ethic. They are St George’s children, through and through!
Summer Fete
I would like to offer a huge ‘thank you’ to Laura and the PSG Team who organised this year’s Summer Fete. Without a doubt, it was a fantastic success and a credit to the organisers. The wet-weather plans were very much needed, and I cannot tell you how much effort went in behind the scenes to pull it all together. As a school, we are so grateful to our parent volunteers who give their time to benefit the school, and our school community who are so generous in supporting us by helping to raise funds at these events. To thank our PSG properly, we will be inviting them to a Coffee and Cake morning in September, which will be run by the pupils. Further details to follow!
End of Year Reports
The Year 6 End of Year Reports, containing the KS2 SATs results, will go home today, Friday 14th July.
All other End of Year Reports will go home on Monday, 17th July. I have read every child’s report and am so proud of the achievements and progress of every one of our pupils. Well done, one and all!
