Dear Parents and Carers,

The Catholic Life of our School

We are very proud of our provision for Religious Education and the Prayer Life of pupils at our school. Children are provided with an opportunity to worship every day of the week, including our Gospel Assembly on Monday, daily prayer in classes three times a day, a Hymn practice on Wednesday afternoons, a Key Stage worship on Thursdays and our celebration assembly on Fridays.

Pupils have RE lessons twice a week, and these lessons follow the liturgical calendar, bringing the life and mission of Jesus alive and promoting discussions which help them to develop spiritually and morally. As pupils reach upper Key Stage 2, there is an opportunity to join our Chaplaincy Team, leading prayer and worship in our school, and supporting charity initiatives like our Harvest collection for Open Door and the Taunton Food Bank.

We have rich links with our Church Community, with several volunteers from the Church donating their time to our school. Mary Tighe, the Church pianist reads with the children, volunteers in classrooms, plays piano for our choir and at all our worship events and, on top of all this, is our RE School Governor. Anne Twort, the Church choirmaster, leads our school choir in music and leads a Key Stage 1 hymn practice weekly. We have several other members of our Church community, like Marjorie Hart and Marie-Louise Lipscombe who read with the children every week.

Many of our school staff are Holy Communion Catechists and lead weekly sessions for our pupils, and Catholic pupils from other local schools, preparing to make their Holy Communion. Celebrating our links with our vibrant Kerala community, a Kerala Holy Communion celebration was held at St George’s School last month, attended by the Kerala community and special guests Father Rajesh and Bishop Joseph. It was a beautiful celebration of the growing faith life of the children who celebrated this special sacrament. As a school, we cherish these links with the Church community.

In order to keep our parents updated on the faith life of our school, information is provided about our Masses and Church celebrations in the weekly newsletter, and further information on RE lessons is provided in the termly RE newsletter, provided by our RE Lead Teacher, Mrs Weetch. We also report to parent on RE in our annual End of Year report. However, we are always looking for ways to improve our communication with parents and therefore we would value your views on the RE and Catholic Life of our school. As such, we would ask that you complete the Parent Survey – link below:

Thank you in advance for your time and we look forward to receiving your feedback so we can develop our provision.

Summer Fete

Thank you for your kind donations of raffle prizes in every colour of the rainbow for our Summer Fete. We were blown away by your generosity, and judging by the donations received, the hampers are going to be impressive! Make sure to get your raffle tickets asap and remember to sell as many tickets as you can to friends and family.

Remember, the Summer Fete is fast approaching! If there are any parents who would still like to offer their support in helping with our school Summer Fete, do get in touch with the school office by emailing office@stgeorgestaunton.uk and your details will be passed on to the PSG. Alternatively, you may see Laura (Hayden in Year 4’s Mum) on the playground at drop-off or after school with a clip board. She has lots of opportunities to offer to parents who are new to supporting the event, so do catch her to have a chat about how you can help. We greatly appreciate your support.
