Dear Parents and Carers,

TEACHER STRIKE UPDATE

I can now give you further details on how our school will be affected by next Wednesday’s strikes.

Three classes will close for the day: Reception Class, Class 2 and Class 5. If your child is a member of a closed classroom, please keep them at home for the day.

All other classes are open. If you have a child in a classroom that is open, it is a legal requirement to send them to school. Please ensure you send children from Class 1, Class 3, Class 4 and Class 6 to school on Wednesday.

As striking teachers cannot be asked to produce work, we would ask you to ensure your child while at home on Wednesday:

  • Reads
  • accesses Bug Club,
  • Mathletics,
  • Purple Mash,
  • Espresso and
  • TT Rockstars.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience. Further information will be provided on any other upcoming strike dates when we know more.

This Week in School

Did you hear about our exciting, unexpected visitors at school this week? To our enormous surprise, we had an air ambulance helicopter land at our school in to attend a medical emergency off site! The pilot was absolutely fantastic, and insisted in allowing every child in the school come around in class groups to have a closer look and ask questions. What a memorable moment for our pupils!

We were so grateful to Mrs Crocker for organising a school visit from the illustrator, Korky Paul yesterday. You may know him as the illustrator for the Winnie the Witch books. He led a workshop for every class in the school, and four prizes will be handed out next week to the winners of the ‘Best hat for Winnie’ Design. Mrs Croker has a glowing email of thanks from Korky, who thought our staff and children were some of the most welcoming he had come across in his time visiting schools over the years.

On Friday, we had a visiting dance group who performed a workshop for Year 3 and 4 pupils. The children and adults alike found the production lively and entertaining. We are delighted to be able to offer these arts-based opportunities to our pupils to inspire and engage them. Who knows…we may have a budding illustrator, helicopter pilot or professional dancer in our midst!

Parent’s Evenings

Do make sure you have booked an appointment to see your child’s class teacher at the upcoming parent’s evening. It is an excellent opportunity to find out how your child is getting on at school and ask the class teacher any questions you may have.

School Disco/Movie Night

Further information went out in bookbags at the start of this week regarding the upcoming disco and movie night. The cost is £4.00 and your child’s place must be booked, by returning the slip to the school office, by Wednesday, 1st February. Please note, if your child’s class is affected by strikes, you may need to return this by the Tuesday.

The event will finish promptly at 4.30pm. KS2 children should be collected from the playground and KS1 children and their KS2 siblings should be collected from the school hall, coming down the front steps into the school at. This should ensure the cars can move through the car park with greater ease.

Thank you in advance for your support with this. It is sure to be a wonderful event and we are so grateful to our wonderful PSG for their time and effort in organising such an enjoyable occasion for the children.

Updated Contact Details

Occasionally, the school office needs to get in touch with parents about their child. It is vital that we have up to date contact information for all families so that we can provide your child with the best care, and we can inform you of any incidents or emergencies. Please can you contact the school office as soon as possible if you have had a change of phone number, email or home address.

Sale of Pre-owned Uniform

There will be a sale of pre-owned uniform from 2.30pm on Friday 10th February. This will take place on the KS1 playground or in the Sports Hall depending on the weather. In the meantime, if you have any school uniform (in good condition only please) that your child has outgrown, you are welcome to donate it to the school and this can be added to our uniform sale.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
