9th December 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

This Week in School

It has been a joyous week filled with angelic singing and Christmas sparkle at St George’s. Thank you to all who attended the EYFS and KS1 Nativities and raising £91.50 for Children’s Hospice South-West. We were all so proud of the children for the fantastic effort and talent they displayed. What wonderful singers and performers they are! As well as the Christmas Carol Concert on Wednesday (please see details below) we will also be celebrating our end of term Mass in school the following day, Thursday 15th December, and you are of course welcome to attend this service too.

Carol Concert

Please note that the Carol Concert is now taking place on Wednesday 14th December at 10:30am as there is a parish mass on the same day at 9.30am. I do apologise if this disrupts any plans you may have had and Parents and carers are still warmly invited to join us.

Letter to Santa

Our post box to the North Pole has arrived! If your child would like to post a letter to Santa, they can post it in the Hall. This postal service is very speedy and reliable, with no strikes currently planned, and will be available until Friday 16th December.

Christmas Dinner and Christmas Jumper Day

Next Tuesday, we will be asking children to wear their Christmas jumpers for the day as we celebrate our Christmas lunch together in the hall. If you have any Christmas jumpers at home that no longer fit your child, do consider donating them to the school, as we can pass these on to children who haven’t got a jumper on the day. Just send them into your child’s class teacher, and we will happily pass them on to someone who needs them.

Children In Need

I am delighted to announce that a magnificent £294.50 was raised by Class 4 from their Children in Need Cake Sale. Thank you for all the wonderful cakes that were donated and to everyone for supporting this fund-raising event.

Christmas Raffle

The Christmas hamper prizes are looking fantastic. I would encourage you to return your tickets by the Tuesday 13th December, as these prizes are not to be missed! Please contact the school office if you need any extra raffle booklets, as these can be provided. We will hold the draw on the 14th December and notify winners directly. Do make sure you put clear contact details on the tickets so we can ensure prizes can be claimed easily.

Football Tournament

A huge congratulations to the Year 5 and 6 boys who participated in a local football tournament earlier this week. Having played four games, they won three and drew one. It is also to their credit that they didn’t concede any goals. What a fantastic achievement! This is the second year running that our St. George’s boys’ team have won this league.

There will hopefully be an opportunity for the team to play against Bishop Henderson, the winners of the adjacent league that took place locally. It would be exciting to see these fantastic teams go head to head - watch this space! I’m sure you will all join me in saying a big thank you to Mr Chidgey, Mrs Buck and Mrs Ely for the fantastic sporting opportunities they provide for the children of our school.

Reception Intake Applications

Time to start school? If you have a child born between 1st September 2018 and 31st August 2019, then now is the time to apply for a place at our school for admission from September 2023 onwards. Applications are online only through Somerset County Council. Please ensure you apply by the closing date of 15 January 2023. If your child is Catholic, you must also provide a copy of the baptism certificate to the school by this date.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
